The aknowledgement of the importance of gender equality is a step forward. It is a pity that it does not flow naturally in our everyday actions...

Women of Cyprus are not begging! We have a strong voice and we demand full equality, particularly in the peace negotiations, a process that is deciding about our future and the future of our children. Such a process cannot be an all male business. The leaders should assume their responsibilities and include women in the negotiating teams, making them a substantial part of the peace process, as demanded by resolution 1325(2000) and subsequent resolutions of the UN Security Council.

The peace negotiations needs a fair representation of gender equality for all concerned, so female and male Greek Cypriots, and female and male Turkish Cypriots.

This is a crucial declaration in response to the on-going reconciliation talks. Women from all communities in Cyprus need to have the courage and faith to speak up and participate in the building of a new country

Very important declaration! Setting up a separate committee is a positive step but it is not enough! Gender is a cross-cutting issue! Each working group and technical committee should include an actively participating gender expert.
