Apple finally released the requested firmware update so our older machines can run the 8800 GT card. My Mac Pro feels like a new computer and I am incredibly grateful to the 2,586 people who pushed for this with me. Keep an eye on those forums for installation guides so …
On January 8th, 2008, Apple announced a new Mac Pro including an optional highly desirable PCIe graphics card, the GeForce 8800 GT. However, it only works on the "Early 2008" Mac Pro. All those buyers of the "Aug 2006" and "Apr 2007" Mac Pro are unable to upgrade to it even though it is offered in a kit.
We the undersigned implore Apple to create a version of the GeForce 8800 GT that is compatible with all Mac Pros.
We are approaching the 2,500 signature mark and need a final push to force Apple to pay attention to our older machines. Please post this link to your social media right now so we can hit that goal before the week ends.

Seeing this momentum grow confirms that I am not the only one feeling abandoned by these restrictive hardware choices. It is heartening to know that so many of you are just as frustrated by this intentional lockout as I am.

Ridiculous that they force us to buy a whole new machine just for a graphics bump. My 2006 Mac Pro is still a beast but lagging in games.

Had this machine since day one and it runs like a dream. Being locked out of basic upgrades is just bad business practice.
