The U>S> Department of Agriculture has sent biologists into all of NYC's parks for the past month,to euthanize all the geese that have peacefully lived in our parks for over 150 years...to the joy and pleasure of NYC children and adults alike. They have been rounded up, stuffed in crates, 40 to a crate, shipped to a facility where they have been gassed with CO2 and killed. They are ostensibly doing this to make the airways safe for planes, so that no geese can become entangled in airplane engines. The Humane Society has repeatedly stated this will not solve the problem, and kill about 10% of the geese that are the cause of this problem, but that draining the marshes and swamps that surround the airports would solve the problem, as this would make them less attractive as habitats for the geese. We demand that the mass exterminations immediately cease. We, the residents of NYC are outraged that no public debate, discussion nor announcements were made concerning this plan! We demand this program be halted immediately, and that the Humane Society's suggestion of draining the swamps and marshes surrounding the NYC airports be implemented as an alternative.
