Gender Based Analysis For Sport in Canada
To the Honourable Gary Lunn Minister of State (Sport) and the Honorouable Prime Minister Stephen Harper:
We, the undersigned, are requesting that you support the following motion by the House of Commons Standing Committee on the Status of Women:
"That the Committee recommend that the government conduct a gender-based analysis of all federal funding of sport, including Sport Canada funding programs, funding of sport infrastructure projects by Infrastructure Canada, as well as contributions to international athletic competitions hosted in Canada, to ensure that funding is being distributed on an equitable basis;
That the conclusions of this analysis be made publicly available and tabled in the House of Commons; and
That the appropriate Ministers be invited to appear before the Committee on this matter."
We, the undersigned, are also requesting that you recognize the need for gender based analysis to be conducted in the area of sport in an open and transparant process and table such gender based analysis in the House of Commons. No such analysis has ever been done and made public to the citizens of Canada. Sport is an important concern for both men and women in Canada, and is an area that receives substantial government funding.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned Petitioners
