On behalf of the undersigned citizens and stake holders of Garrett County Maryland, Please change your position on fracking in Maryland. We ask that you and your collegues support the 8 year moratorium on fracking in Maryland, this is the prudent decision to protect the most citizens from the economic uncertainty, environmental change and health risks that come with this industry. Our economy is based on tourism, the effects of industry on tourism have not been studied and need to be before we risk the foundation our current lively hoods. There are hundreds of businesses and thousands of residents who work hard everyday to create a destination that is peaceful and quiet and tranquil, where over 1,000,000 people visit each year, bringing approx $350 million in yearly economic impacts. we feel it is short sighted to allow heavy industry to invade our county with out properly assessing the impact it will have on the visitors we depend on. please remember that these visitors can choose somewhere else to vacation and if the effects of industry take away from the tranquil nature they have come to expect of Garrett County the tourism market could colapse on itself and then we would have killed the goose that layed the golden egg. Considering current market conditions and the glut of supply on the natural gas market, there is no reason to rush to drill here, let the industry mature elsewhere and in 8 years, if we still feel we need to introduce heavy industry to our home then we can be sure that time has been allowed to fully investigate the impacts, good and bad to our community and economy.
