To the Galway LGBT community:

Dear friends,

For too long now our little community has been subject to criticism due to it's in house disputes. It has been said that the gays get on with everyone else except themselves. Now is the time to change this statement and direct our Pride Festival in the direction of where We would like it to go.

The only way this can happen is to alleviate the individuals who feel their sole basis for involvement is to make a personal profit or a business profit. It is apparent that so called 'splits' within the community come from within the choosing of venues and business' to host Our events. Perhaps by consolidating as a community, we can then consolidate our venues.

Our Pride festival has once again run out of our control through an individual's personal interest and alas, we have let that happen. Galway has a busy few years ahead of it and the LGBT community are a vital part of that. For one week of the year we get to just be ourselves through our vibrancy and colour. So folks, we all have a choice here. Do we continue as we are; bickering amongst ourselves with endless in house drama or do we move forward and make changes as a community? Now is the time to do that.

Updates

September 1, 2016

The stories coming in show how tired everyone is of the current internal politics. We are planning our next steps to reclaim the festival for the community.

September 1, 2016

The momentum is shifting. It is clear that we are tired of the same old in-house drama.

I have to say I am very disappointed in the stories I have heard this year and will be very reluctant to support it next year if things do not change.

Totally agree with this. Pride is a time for celebration not arguments, bring it back to the west where we always had a good time. This years pride was a joke!

be kind to each other, pride should be about celebrating how far we have come in equality and to remember the ones we have sadly lost and who have helped fight the battle that has paved the way to a better life for the younger generation of today at the end of the day it's about them , not money or even raising money we have a whole year to do this if we wish to thru donations to wathey courses within the community ......pride is not a business its a celebration for everyone to enjoy ,,,,
