We the undersigned note: 1. That Glasgow University’s cash-in-transit services are currently supplied by G4S 2. That G4S also provide security services to Israeli prisons that hold Palestinian political prisoners from occupied Palestinian territory inside Israel. 3. That In doing so G4S are beaching Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention which prohibits the transfer of prisoners from occupied territory into the territory of the occupier. 4. That as Palestinian political prisoners began a mass hunger strike on April 17 2012, Palestinian organisations called for action to be taken to hold G4S accountable for its involvement with Palestinians unlawful detention. 5. That G4S also provides equipment and services to Israeli checkpoints in the West Bank that form part of the route of Israel’s illegal Wall and to the terminals isolating the occupied and besieged territory of Gaza. 6. That G4S has also signed contracts for equipment and services for the West Bank Israeli Police headquarters and to private businesses based in illegal Israeli settlements. 7. That the establishment of Israeli settlements are held to constitute a transfer of Israel's civilian population into the occupied territories and as such are illegal under the Fourth Geneva Convention. We the undersigned believe: 1. That G4S is therefore contributing to the violation of human rights and is acting in violation of international law. 2. That the University of Glasgow has a responsibility to uphold an ethical buying policy. 3. That by contracting services from G4S, the University of Glasgow is complicit in the above violations. We the undersigned resolve: 1. To put pressure on the University of Glasgow to cancel its contract with G4S as soon as is legally possible. 2. To Mandate the Education and Ethics and Environment Officers to write to the Principal on the issue, attaching a copy of this petition. 3. To mandate the Education and Ethics and Environment Officers to lobby, at all available levels, against the purchase of cash-in-transit services from G4S.
