The competing proposal makes much better use of the school space, has a strong likelihood of developing multiple complementary businesses that will drive the LOCAL economy and develop jobs that are unique to Sullivan county. The opportunities from a multipurpose building for creative purposes distinguishes Narrowsburg and can easily become a tourist destination in and of itself for weekenders looking to hone cheesemaking, winemaking and cooking skills among many others. I can't think of a worse use for the school than a rehab center.

I am completely opposed to a rehab center in the heart of Narrowsburg. Alternate uses of the school such as a community center are a better idea for the community. Addicts have a large number of resources already in place, and the last thing we need in tiny Narrowsburg is an influx of addicts, many of whom are sent to these centers against their will and who will be looking to score while away from their families and jobs. With demand comes supply, and it's quite possible we will see increased narcotics activity in the immediate area around the rehab center, just as I have seen around other rehab centers.

A rehab center is not only a stupid and ugly end for the school, but it is also an extremely irresponsible consideration for the school board.
The same school board that has repeatedly stated that it wants to make the best business decision, that is, it wants the most money it can get. Ironically, a drug rehab is the worst business decision. It will drive away residents, visitors and business, which will inevitably result in lower tax revenue for their coffers and for the hamlet.
We can legally do little to influence their decision, but we can pressure the elected members of the zoning board to deny any re-zoning petitions for the property.

A rehab center is not a good use for this property and location. It will not attract visitors. It will provide no amenities to the local population or visitors. It will isolate the building from the community. It's the wrong location for this use. property and location. I will not enhance Narrowsburg in any way. It will not attract visitors. It will not provide amenties to the townvisitors

I am a new homeowner and full time resident to narrowsburg at 6536 route 97 . This is a house I bought for my 4 year old son to happily grow up in and the rehab would be directly in our path to the school bus pick up and drop off walk from our house. I feel that this would be a really inappropriate location for a rehab and for outsiders of our close knit family community to be residing. My concerns for this kind if an operation at this location are only heightened by the fact that there has been numerous safety problems already on our door stop with the narrowsburg home residents walking by our house to get to pecks daily being highly medicated suffering from serious mental disorders unsupervised which brings me to believe that our town does not have the police man power to control the proposition of a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. We strongly vote against the rehab vote. Thank you, the Iavarone family

To place a drug rehab center in this bulding, in this town would be a complete waste of resources. It is a shame that the school has been sitting empty for this long but allowing an outside buyer who knows nothing about this area would be like draining the

I think exploring other options should be considered -not only to make good use of the empty building in its location but to benefit the community as a whole.

As stated on Rehabs.com, "those who find themselves facing criminal charges due to an addiction may be able to enter a rehabilitation program instead of serving jail time… So, if you’re being charged for possession of marijuana, hash or cocaine, you may be a candidate for the jail diversion program.” I feel I can speak on behalf of many that we do not want the Narrowsburg School to be a safe harbor for those seeking a ‘jail diversion’. Rehabs.com goes on to estimate that “57 percent of people receiving drug rehab were re-arrested within a 12-month period. 42 percent of people receiving drug rehab were convicted of a crime.” Sullivan West, you have in the past stated "The Board will review these proposals and uphold their fiduciary responsibility to secure the best overall offer for the district." While as a fiduciary you must consider your fiscal duties, you must also consider your duty to uphold the long-term best interest for the district. The sale of the Narrowsburg School to Changes Treatment and Recovery Center would be a short-sighted decision and will prove to be an ongoing tax and resource burden to the town of Tusten and its adjoining communities.

This facility was built with the love, care and finances of the great grandparents, grandparents and parents of the children of the Town of Tusten. It is a building dedicated to honoring growth and learning, and as schools are, the heart and soul of a community. It should remain a centerpiece of Narrowsburg's history, and continued to be used to build community.

I'm sure that a better location is available if you looked at other available locations. I feel it would be detrimental to Narrowsburg.

the school building would be totally inappropriate siting. Look at the youth/jobs training center (aka juvenile detention) in Callicoon: it's out of the center and well situated, without being excluded. The Narrowsburg school, by contrast, occupies the actual center of the town.

This could potentially be devastating economically to a town as small as ours. It would brand the town in a direction that would negatively impact commerce in the village. Wrong direction for Narrowsburg.

I strongly support the vision of the Solution Project. It's mission is to revive the old Narrowsburg School for community, events, education, retail, & food hub for local farmers...The School Board has no right to jeopardize the future of our town by selling the School to a for profit Rehab. The local economy is in strong united recovery since the recession. We do not need this kind of facility in the middle of any hamlet!!! Shame on the School Board for even considering putting a rehab in Narrowsburg, NY!
