Unsanctioned Camping is Unsafe! Fully Fund Compassionate Intervention!

Lets keep making progress in encouraging vulnerable people to accept services to move from unsafe and unhealthy places to live.

No camping in Seattle Parks. Get the low income housing built that we voted and paid for. Rent more shelter space!

Seattle's parks are the gems of this city and people feel safe using them. But I have been in other cities where people were afraid to use the parks because they were considered dangerous. If we lose control of these spaces, people will quit using them, and it will be difficult to turn it around.

This is a public safety problem, not a compassionate way to deal with homelessness. There are shelters. Enforce the use of them.

Illegal encampments are dangerous and disgusting leading to increased crime and accumulation of garbage including human waste in the parks and city streets. Encampments will destroy this city for all law abiding citizens.

The "proviso" proposed by Kshama Sawant is counterproductive and an insult to the intelligence of Seattle's voters. I am incredulous that any city politician would want to prevent her city from cleaning up the blight of illegal and garbage-strewn encampments!!!!

I oppose this proviso vigorously as it does not help get people off the streets and adds to social breakdown and urban decay. It is the wrong direction and I will oppose candidates who look to expanding access to camping on public property as a solution to homelessness. Expanding access to housing the accommodates different needs and expands social services is where we need to focus attention and resources.

Allowing homeless camps throughout the city is not the answer!

Allowing vagrants to dominate our city is ridiculous. Stop the madness. We have campers shooting up drugs outside our Belltown condo and in front of the Seattle Center on every piece of public land. Tax paying citizens cannot use these public spaces. Where is OUR rights?

People need decent housing. Camping in city parks is no good for anyone. It is not safe, healthy living without sanitation and protection from the elements. People deserve safe shelter. Our parks belong to all the citizens of the city. Homeless people in the parks destroy the rights of others to use these spaces to say nothing of the damage done to the environment.

Your first priority must public safety and health.

Think about the big picture- not just short term solutions.

There are no inactive parts of parks. Areas where plants grow are actively protecting our clean air and water, and our mental health. Allowing encampments in such areas endangers our health, the health of the campers, and the health of the environment. Better solutions can be found for this problem.

Please, maintain our parks for which they were made for, A healthy place where family and friends could enjoy the green open spaces and be one with nature. They were not meant to be a dormitory/.

This has to stop ASAP!

Why should 4,000 to 6,000 people ruin the look and feel of Seattle for the rest of us. Offer them services and if they don't take them, give them a bus ride out of Seattle. I'd rather spend money on housing with services in them - not moving camps around and/or allowing them to make our city dirty and unsafe for everyone.

It is shameful that we continue to make people live in such horrific conditions, especially under the guise of helping them.

I support strongly helping the homeless with taxes and my own monthly donations. But I do not support allowing camping in parks such as Green Lake where I live. This park is heavily used by families with children, walkers, runners, and others. Parks are not good places for homeless people who often bring lots of garbage, mental illness, crime, drugs, and other negative things. Our parks should be places for healthy, safe recreation.

Safe harbor in recovery, not addiction.
