Unsanctioned Camping is Unsafe! Fully Fund Compassionate Intervention!

I am disturbed that once again some Seattle City Council members are trying to push through a plan that would prevent the City of Seattle from removing unauthorized encampments. These encampments degrade the environment, and do nothing to resolve homelessness. Portland, Oregon experimented with a similar camp where you please policy and it was a huge failure. Stop this nonsense.

The tent city’s aren’t safe. Please stop this. Too many needles in the parks that our tax paying money goes to pay for

Real compassion involves not warehousing people outdoors, but expecting them to live within the rules of a civil society. By allowing camping/living in our shared spaces, you will make Seattle an unlivable place - and end up hurting more people than you help.

Our public parks are not public campgrounds.

Enough already, civil society can't exist if people are allowed to break all norms of decent behavior. Being homeless us not a right especially when services are offered. Public Health & sanitation can't be ignored just because some people chose to live in squalor. It's a disgrace that so-called nonprofits receive enough tax dollars to pay one person at least $180,000 a year.

Please continue to enforce the law and clean-up dangerous and illegal encampments, for the well-being of all citizens of Seattle.

These encampments have turned our Parks into unsafe spaces for our families. This is not a solution to the problem. It adds another.

Make our city a place that is safe, clean and beautiful for all! Do not allow camping in the city! It is unfair to residents and to businesses!

Move the homeless camps out of our green space and keep them out of our parks, Green Lake specifically. Spend whatever money is needed and send them to Portland get them out of Seattle.

When I take my son to a park I don't want to see bums urinating, defeating, using drugs and fighting. This proposal is absurd and shows that the mayor and city council are completely out of touch with what seattleites want.

We should continue cleaning up unauthorized camps. No camping in parks, this is ridiculous.

While I firmly support helping homeless people, we CANNOT allow them to have unauthorized encampments in public places, including public parks. Just an example: I walk in Lincoln Park regularly, and I have been harrassed by the homeless guys there. It's really frightening. These encampments also create litter and unhealthy environments.

Please continue to provide services to homeless people. Continue to clean up dangerous and illegal encampments. Pass a budget that includes funding to build more permanent housing and improve our shelter system. And STRIKE DOWN the "Proviso" as proposed by Council Member Sawant to prevent the City of Seattle from spending money, staff time, or other resources to remove unauthorized encampments in most public spaces. This Proviso will make the problem even worse than it already is.

Homelessness is obviously a beast of an issue but green areas and parks definitely deserve protection from encampments as much as possible. My kids play and hike in green areas around Seattle and their safety is one of my primary concerns! We in our family help by serving the homeless population of the greater Seattle area regularly by working in food assistance programs and distributing “goodie/blessing bags” to homeless around our city so the issue is near and dear to our hearts. However, the city and Washington as a whole need to get together on reasonable assistance and education/job training programs to address the epidemic that’s spilling out of bounds.

The health concerns are simply too high to accept camping and living in city open spaces.
