Where to begin? Start with the fact that programs using the parks (e.g., baseball, soccer, etc.) rely heavily on volunteer coaches, etc. There is no distinction between "active" and "inactive" park areas. To honestly believe that homeless would observe this false distinction is delusional. What would happen, however, once ball fields, etc are impacted is that the coaches and other volunteers would simply quit and then the youth programs would be in chaos.

Do NOT pass councilwoman Sawant's proposal. I do NOT want to be living in a 3rd world country. If you do pass this give us your home addresses so that we can direct the homeless onto your front lawn.

We support Mayor Burgess' efforts to provides aid to the city's transient homeless population. We oppose Council Member Sawant's proviso, as it is a simply a stop-gap measure that side-steps a substantive solution and is one that, meantime, risks tremendous damage to our city's park's and open spaces.

I strongly support maintaining the new measures that have been enacted to move vulnerable homeless people off the streets and into bona fide housing and human services. Our streets and parks are not meant to serve as unsafe and unsanitary homeless encampments. Allowing such encampments is a shameful cop-out to finding real solutions. Thanks to more recent efforts, far fewer tents, garbage, drug needles and human excrement occupy our streets. Let's all continue working together to come up with compassionate, sustainable solutions that create a clean, safe and vibrant city for everyone. Thank you!

I heard on the radio today (KOMO 1000) that the Jungle 2.0 homeless encampment has developed near the original Jungle location. There are over 50 people living there. The radio report mentioned the city of Seattle can't clean it up because there aren't enough open beds in shelters. One Jungle 2.0 resident was interviewed and said he wouldn't go to a shelter even if there was a bed. This is a complicated problem, but facilitating people living in our parks, or in RVs on our residential streets is not the solution that is best for everyone in Seattle.

Seattle spends more money on projects that don't solve any of the problems. I don't think letting them camp out is compassionate at all.

I’m appalled and saddened by the state of our city- trash needles and homeless folks with more “compassion” showed to them than the homeowners, works and citizens who make this city great.

The latest in a long line of stupid and incompetent suggestions from our hapless council member Mike O'Brien's office. This proposal is simply the latest form of his constant proposals to make camping legal everywhere. If successful it will turn the city into a trash dump with rampant crime throughout the city. We must stop this now!

Our home used to back on to the GAR park/ cemetery. During that time several homeless persons camped in the cemetery and park hedges. There were several uncomfortable incidents involving children playing in the park and those camping. It would be a shame to have that concern again.

What the council is proposing is NOT the answer! Putting the citizens of Seattle in more danger walking down the streets of Seattle is shameful. I support whole heartedly this petition. It is the responsibility of the City Council Members to protect and keep safe the families and tourists in Seattle not to subject them to the filth and harassment I have personally experienced.
