Our students are currently enrolled in Southwick Regional School District. We as parents/legal guardians are petitioning the district to make the necessary adjustments so that teaching of “specials” (Science, Digital Literacy, Art, Music, and PE) is uniform and equal for both our hybrid/in person students and our fully remote students in Powder Mill School. This means that fully remote students will get a live (zoom) teaching of the same lesson that their peers who are hybrid/in person receive.
At this time, and since the beginning of the 20/21 school year fully remote children at Powder Mill School have not received any live instruction for their “special” classes. They have been emailed “dumbed down” (as stated by the Powder Mill Principal Erin Carrier) lessons so they can self teach themselves. This is not fair or equal. Fully remote students deserve the to be taught at the same level and the same manner as all children in the district. We have been told this is not possible because there is not enough time for teachers to teach the live zooms for our fully remote children, and that there is just not enough staff. However, if our children were in person they would have to make the time and space for them. Just because they are fully remote does not mean they are not counted as part of our school district. Each school needs to plan accordingly and equally for students whether remote or in person. Woodland School is able to do this and have all children regardless of enrollment status learning equally, with live instruction.
We want equal education for our children.
