Full-Day Kindergarten is essential in Wantagh! Did you know that Wantagh is the only school district in Nassau County that only offers half-day kindergarten to its' residents? Research has shown that full-day kindergarten:
* Increased school readiness
* Promotes higher academic achievement
* Improves student attendance
* Contributes to literacy and language development
* Reduces retention and remediation rate
Our children are losing a critical opportunity to develop and strengthen foundational skills needed for success. They will be expected tp meet more rigorous academic benchmarks than ever before. 2 1/2 hours is not enough instructional time to ensure that our children meet the new Common Core State Standards. Please help us get full-day kindergarten implemented in the Wantagh School District. Thank you for your support.

I have been reviewing the detailed feedback many of you provided regarding the current time constraints in our kindergarten classrooms. These personal accounts illustrate the urgency of aligning our district with educational standards found elsewhere in the county. Work continues as I prepare to present these findings to the board of education.

The momentum surrounding our call for full-day kindergarten has reached a significant point. It is encouraging to see our community align on the necessity of better preparing our students for future academic demands.

Full day is way better for them socialy too. Lets modernize our schools already.
2 and half hours is practically nothing. Not enough time for them to learn what they need for first grade.
Ridiculous that we are the only district left in Nassau doing half days. My kids deserve better.
Its about time Wantagh caught up with everyone else. My son needs more time in the classroom to keep up with the new standards.
PLEASE make this happen. Trying to find childcare for the rest of the day is a nightmare and so expensive.
