Free Union Bridge Is Unsafe

I was down that way recently to visit family and could not believe the shape that road was in. Very, Very dangerrous. Needs fixing.

There's bound to be a fatality there if something is not done to improve conditions. So many people who are not familiar with the road travel there. It's nice having businesses & parks such as the Glass House & WildRock but a shame that Albemarle County didn't have the foresight to consider road improvements before approving them.

Just wondering why you feel Glass House should be held responsible for some of the costs associated with construction.

I’m always worried someone who doesn’t know the area is gonna fly down the road and not be able to stop and hurt themselves or hurt me and my family

The old bridge has out lived it's time. For safety reasons it needs to be replaced

The old one lane bridge needs to be updated it is very dangerous and has out lived it.s time

Extremely dangerous bridge. Something needs to be done before someones life is taken here.

It's a road hazzard with more people in the area

The one lane bridge on Rt 601 near Free Union is an extreme traffic hazard. I cross this bridge daily on my way to and from work. I cannot begin to count the number of times I have witnessed close calls at this bridge. Weekly, you will see black marks on the road surface where vehicles have had to stop short. Additionally, with three vineyards in very close proximity to this bridge, there are may non-locals now traveling Rt 601 who do not know of the dangerous one lane bridge that lies ahead. Not to mention, the traffic in an out of the Glass House Winery feet from the entrance to the bridge. Hopefully, lives will not have to be lost before the County of Albemarle takes action to replace and widen this road hazard.
