The current owner should graciously accept a full appraised value, should the LTB decide to offer it. The property is currently taxed assessed at $300K, has been professionally appraised at $750K, and he wants $1.695 million. Hastings paid considerably less than the current appraised value for the property and has tried to divide it up and develop it into high density housing. Thankfully his ridiculous plans have been denied, and now he does not want to invest his own money in the current historic building because it is a money loser from a business perspective. The only way to save this building is with a reasonable purchase price and some greenway money. Local taxpayer money is not going to do it. This property has sat vacant and deteriorating due to the owners greediness. Time to play hardball by raising the tax assessment and restricting any building permits that alter the structure. What's the building worth then?

I voiced my opinion and now I'm getting Hangup phone calls ,and on my answering machine swearing and death threats !of course I had to notify the federal authorities. I must protect myself , I would feel more comfortable if the caller would leave an apology on my answering machine they know the number!

I hope this will make the bargaining people aware of how much the public is interested in the Frontier House. But, of course, it always boils down to money!

This seems to be a meaningful step forward. The stalemate has gone on forever and the building is deteriorating as time passes.

The potential economic benefits of restoring this crumbling jewel will far outweigh the upfront cost. We owe it to all citizens of Lewiston, past, present and future, to get this done!
