The Friends of Venezuela Solidarity Committee c/o Israel Lovell Foundation My Lord´s Hill, St. Michael The current President of Venezuela, the honourable Nicolás Maduro, emerged on the 14th of April 2013, as the clear victor in Venezuela´s recent Presidential Election. President Maduro´s victory was also widely regarded as a victory in the referendum on the Venezuelan people´s support for the ongoing process of social transformation known as the Bolivarian Revolution. The Friends of Venezuela Solidarity Committee is therefore urging Venezuela´s opposition political party and its activists to respect the democratic proclamation of the electoral authorities of the sovereign state of Venezuela. Such a civil and democratic approach would permit the country to continue on the developmental path. We are satisfied that the electoral system in Venezuela is of the best in the world. These views were also expressed by no less an authority on electoral democracy than former United States President, Jimmy Carter. Consequently, we strongly oppose the undemocratic approach of the opposition political party and activists in their perverse, unreasonable and illegitimate rejection of President Maduro´s clear and internationally acclaimed electoral victory. Attached hereto is a list of significant Barbadian citizens and leaders of civil society who share the views expressed above, and who, by attaching their signatures hereto, also congratulate the Government and the people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on upholding the sacred principles of Democracy.
