Declaration: Where-As M Scott Carpenter is a friend of all those signed below and Scott Carpenter was the second American to orbit the Earth and Scott Carpenter inspired us with his love for exploration of space, the oceans and science. and Scott Carpenter left us on October 10 and Scott Carpenter dreamed of the day humans would reach deeper into space and set foot again upon the moon and eventually Mars and Where-as Comet ISON passed Mars during the week of Scott Carpenter's passing and where as Comet ISON is rather unimaginatively named

Comet ISON is expected to be a blazing beacon as it passes by the sun this November and December much as Scott Carpenters historic flight:
Be it resolved: That all those signing this document agree to re-name Comet ISON "Comet Carpenter"
and
Will now and forever more exchange "Comet Carpenter" in their minds whenever they encounter "Comet ISON" in any reference written or orally or in any other form of communication.
