Application CUP21-15 requests a conditional use permit for a helipad on the south side of Highway 94 in between Church Road and Jackson Street, next to Augusta, MO. We enjoy visiting Augusta and MABA due to the serenity and peaceful nature of the area. Helicopters do not fit the quiet and peaceful character of the area, and would interfere with our enjoyment of the area. The noise would cause tremendous stress, and would even drive people away. The function of MABA as a spiritual retreat would be destroyed, and so would would the rural charm of Augusta and the surrounding area.
St. Charles Co. Zoning ordinance Section 405.510(B) states: “…that the conditional use will not be injurious to the use and enjoyment of other property in the immediate vicinity….” The noise of helicopters coming and going would be injurious to use and enjoyment in the area.
We are strongly opposed to granting a use permit for a helipad.

I keep thinking about the silence we go to the Buddhist Association to find and how quickly that would vanish if this project moves forward. People continue to reach out sharing their fears that the rural beauty of Augusta is being traded away for convenience. I am currently gathering documents to present our case at the next zoning hearing so they understand exactly what we stand to lose.

The groundswell of support for protecting the serenity of our retreat is truly moving. Seeing so many people recognize how vital this quiet space is for our peace of mind gives me strength to keep fighting the helipad proposal.

The visual and auditory impact of helicopters in this quiet and serene environment would be very detrimental to the mission of MABA and adversely effect a significant number of practitioners and visitors. Please discontinue this intrusive plan or at the least, find a location a more distant location.
MABA is a sacred space and all people are fortunate for the work and practice done there. This requires an atmosphere of respect for the world and quiet. A helipad would be destructive to the beneficial purposes of MABA and the surrounding areas. Thank you, Beth Jacobs
Some consideration needs to be made to those who have been in Augusta for a long time. Many, and especially MABA, chose this area because of the peaceful quiet environment. Seems like it would be in everyone's best interest, including the developers, if residents and visitors equate Augusta with a peaceful, quiet getaway.
The Washington airport is a perfect place for a helicopter to land. It is surrounded by flat open farmland in the Missouri River basin. Very safe. Very close to Augusta by air and land transport via Highway 94. No need to disrupt the peace in tiny Augusta. Keep Augusta small, quaint and quiet. Thank you!
For three decades MABA has provided a spiritual retreat and training and teaching in Buddhism and Buddhist meditation, and the noise of helicopters coming and going nearby would do great harm to MABA and its community.
A helipad should not be permitted near ANY place of Worship!
This can be a win win situation rather than a gross forcible disruption. Move the helipad to another location, like closer to the regional airport rather than disrupting this community.
