Implementation World Language Program Option 3 for 2017-18 Pocantico Hills School Budget

WE should be adding and expanding foreign language options, not reducing them. Other schools in the area offer Mandarin Chinese in addition to Spanish, and French. Fluency or at least familiarity with different languages is a key component to improved communication skills and understanding our multicultural community.

I support option 3. A smaller school should not mean diminished options.

This is long overdue. How long will they ignore the irrefutable research and facts that prove this is what's best?

I support Option 3 - two language options for Pocantico students - this is equivalent to our partner schools and other area schools. I also agree with the increased staffing to support this improved program.

You can't make up for lost time when it comes to language acquisition. Early exposure, when the brain is most elastic, is the most effective way to learn a second language. Beyond language acquisition, it also encourages an open-mindedness to those who are from different cultures.

I support choice and enrichment in schools.

I agree that if our children are to be able to compete as applicants to top colleges and as adults in the increasingly global economy and marketplace, it is extremely important for them to have a solid base in at least 1 foreign language which by necessity requires such instruction to begin early in grade school and to continue through high school.

World Language at Pocantico is important and Option 3 is the only option which both increases instruction in the Middle School and offers a content-driven FLES program in both French and Spanish K-8.
