I feel like this isn't about the swimming but it's about the trash and noise the swimmers bring. Swimmers need to be respectful of people living near 6 mile and the people living near 6 mile need to chill.

It's shouldn't be illegal to swim and enjoy our natural areas, but if you do something stupid and get hurt or dien it should at your own risk and the city/town shouldn't be held liable for your own decisions.

Swimming should not be a prohibited in our beautiful gorges, it is our right to enjoy them as nature intended.

I support the ability of adults to make thier own decisions about swimming in Ithaca's gorges.

I find it rediculous that we humans born of this land have to suffer regulations that separate us from nature cant sleep outside cant bathe outside it never made much sence to me... looks like another way to generate tickets if you ask me...

I've grown up in Ithaca my whole life and been blessed to have the god-given nature this area offers. It's truly unfortunate that it is seen as a crime to enjoy these beautiful places. Let's hope we can reform things to make the natural environments around us safe and kept clean while still being able to appreciate its beauty and refreshing waters!

People love to swim there. It's become a tradition for many over the years.

This has been an issue that drives me up a wall for sometime now. God ( in what ever form you believe in, creationism or Darwinism) has provided these beautiful places for humans to use for the rejuvenation of our souls. The law has no right to tell me that I'm not allowed to be in nature. I want to see the public notice of the public hearing and the results of the proceedings; Stating that we are not allowed to swim in the gorges.

I am an Ithaca native and grew up swimming in the gorges. Restrictions on swimming in and around Ithaca goes against everything the city / town stand for.

Wasn't Ithaca listed as one of the 10 most enlightened cities a few years ago? This is just one more reason to move and another one of the things that gives this place a bad reputation. You can't take dogs on the commons - there are almost no places that allow dogs in. And now it's no swimming... the place was gorges now it's just going to the dogs.

This has bothered me for years. I miss the Ithaca from when I was a girl.

It's bad enough that the commons has been destroyed, we dont need tax dollars wasted policing people trying to have a good time.

Swimming in the gorges harms no one. If someone needs rescue they should pay all charges from their own pocket.

A simple sign stating "Swim at your own risk" would be sufficient.

The state parks don't open swimming until July and are often overcrowded. Where are residents supposed to swim until then? It'd be a wiser use of money to hire lifeguards than have patrols with body cameras.

Swimming in our creeks and gorges is what I wait all year for, it's a part of all of my fondest memories of Ithaca, from my first visits onwards. Go ahead, though, fill up the jails with swimmers; I certainly won't be carrying ID with me next time I wade into Fall Creek...
