Freeing the minds that will fuel the future

Putting and end to bullying and raising awareness for Mental Health are two of the most talked about topics around the globe. Yet we still allow medical professionals use labels that create negative stereotypes of people who face living with mental challenges in their daily lives. I know because I have lived for more than 50 years hiding in fear that someone would discover my own person mental challenge. According to the medical profession I have a mental disorder know as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Imagine having to wake up everyday knowing that the whole world thinks that you are defective, broken or damaged. How much self esteem, dignity, self respect would you have? How could you expect to go out in the world to live a normal life knowing that if others found out about your situation you would be made fun of, tormented, or even worse ostracized from participating in their lives? Well that is what it is like for millions of people around the world and it is due largely to the medical professions labeling of our conditions in such a negative ways! If we really want to improve the lives of people living with these conditions, then we need to put an end to this type of bullying by making the medical profession change it’s own perceptions of us and put an end to ill informed images they create of us. We are not defective, broken,or damaged. We are human beings just like them only our minds work in a different way. We do not have a mental disorders we have been born a very Special Mental Abilities and because of this very special gift we have been blessed with we are able to accomplish amazing things in our live! In my case I have OCD, or as the way I prefer to refer to OCB (Obsessive Compulsive Behavior). Thanks to my parents diligence, compassion and patience, we worked to develop our own understanding of it and how to turn it into something that was very positive. Despite all of the opportunities and triumphs I have been able to accomplish in my life, I kept this secret deeply hidden from everyone. I am one of the lucky ones, imagine how much better life could be for the millions of others with mental challenges who are less fortunate if we made just one simple change in their lives by eliminating the negative stereotypes and labels the medical profession has imprisoned them to live with! Now more than ever we need to make this change, to create a healthier and more positive positive public image. If we can spend billions of dollars developing medical treatments, and medical care, then why can’t we spend some of this money to rename our conditions so that we can live with dignity, respect and self esteem just like everyone else. We the people demand the medical profession immediately begin making these changes and to stop using labels that create negative stereotypes of people with mental challenges. Every person in the world has the right to live with dignity, respect and honor and you have no right to label us in way that cast us in a negative stereotypical way. These practices must be brought to an end immediately and all mental conditions must be renamed to create a more positive image and representation of our true potential. aspiringly, Bill Mackie We the undersigned are requesting that that medical profession put an immediate end to their practice of using these labels and names because of all the harm and damage they create for people living with mental challenges.
