Air travel is a significant part of our lives. Sometimes it involves flights for a prolonged duration. When a passenger flies on the airplane his only option for meals is what is provided by the airlines. In case of long flights it is just common sense to provide the passengers with complimentry food. One can likely stay without food for 3-4 hours but anything longer than that requires some extra nutrition. Many of the major airlines are offering food for sale, even in very long flights. Unfortunately the prices of food are very high. In addition the passenger does not have any choice but to pay the high prices. It is not like they are at an airport where they can shop around. It is their monopoly on the airplane and they are exploiting it. One such example is a flight is Continental flight CO15. It is an 11 hours long flight. It is even longer than many of the international flights and costs more than many of the international flights of the same duration as well. In this flight the airlines does not provide any food for the economy class. Ironically it provides good food on similar duration flights to Europe and often they are less expensive. It is totally unfair that they force the passengers with this extra charge. It is not even reflected in any decreased fares by the airlines. Hence we request all the commercial airlines operating in the United States of America for removing this extra fee. The food in the airlines should be complimentary if the duration is more than three hours. If you agree with this please sign this petition below. This petition will be sent to the department of transportation on 03/01/2012
