Freeflow - an alternative vision for the Southern Gateway to Chichester

Freeflow provides a dedicated new road and bridge solution, removing congestion, pollution and mounting frustration of those trying to access Chichester

Freeflow proposes the closure of both crossings saving over 20,000 working days wasted every year waiting at the crossings

Freeflow’s route creates minimal visual impact allowing the closure of both crossings, and with minimal impact on the road network during construction of the bridge

Freeflow offers the City a gateway worthy of the name

Freeflow offers significant public realm benefits around the train station, removing the through traffic making it pedestrian and cycle friendly

Freeflow proposes a high quality Exhibition / Conference / Performance venue, Hotel, Commercial and Retail space and additional homes to enhance the local economy and create a vibrant southern quarter to Chichester

Freeflow will help alleviate traffic congestion on the A27 by not requiring people to divert to other access routes into the city as they currently do

Freeflow allows the City to grow and prosper without traffic gridlock along it’s southern gateway

In principle this is a positive move forward. I would like to see an iconic bridge that became a Chichester landmark rather a disguised flyover. If this took design clues from the City it may enhance the tourist interest whilst removing dangerous, out of date and industrial looking level crossings.

I really hope this happens, I am so fed up with trying to get out of chichester in rush hour; it often takes me an hour to travel the 8 miles home due to being stuck in traffic the other side of the level crossing!

We can only hope this forward thinking plan comes to fruition. If the level crossings are not closed they will continue to choke the city and strangle the last few breaths out of it. The CDC scheme is totally flawed and takes no account of the need to reduce traffic congestion a d pollution.

I totally agree with a road bridge to replace the current level crossing. This should have been done at the time of the removal of the gasometer but housing was more lucrative. What price reduction in air pollution? This could be the last chance.

I can see the advantage of a road bridge and it would certainly ease congestion at the southern entrance to the city Obviously any development would need to consider cyclists and footpassengers including families , disabled people and commuters also needing a safe and uninterupted pathway

Having only recently moved to the area, I was amazed that a city in the UK still had railway crossings controlled by traffic lights running through its middle and causing significant inconvenience to motorists. The proposed solution here makes eminent sense to me and has my full support.

Brilliant. We should do it - get on with it. However, I was appalled at usual suspects' negativity at public meeting and ridiculous comments quoted in Chi Obs y'day. Nil desperandum. And thank you.

These crossings must be addressed closed or bridged spending so much on this regeneration and leaving the current chaos would be total madness. grasp and go ahead asap.
