This petition addresses the issue of current Amtrak hair policies, that state you must wear your hair up or secured back if it is a certain length even in Non-food service positions. This petition would like to challenge these policies as, wearing your hair up or down does NOT relate to safety and/or job performance.  We believe that this policy should be reviewed and CHANGED to reflect modern standards and focus more on employee overall performance.

Whether a woman wears her hair up or down should be her choice as long as it is tasteful, professional and compliments her overall appearance. Having such policies in place not only have no barring on work performance but possibly hinders work productivity as more emphasises and demands are placed on what someone looks like versus how they perform in their daily task.
