Cant believe our County gov would allow this travesty to happen. Then again we all know that he who has the gold also makes the rules and especially in Carteret County. The 2 gentlemen do not belong behind bars . Shame on our leadership in Carteret County.

Release the brothers until their case is argued through the NC Supreme Court.

Melvin and Licurtus need to be released yesterday. State governments grabbing cheaper land in Black neighborhoods for highways and other projects, along with these kinds of sneaky practices have helped Black people lose close to 19 million acres of land since 1865 when Lincoln freed the slaves. It's a huge shame that nearly 200 years later these two men, among others, have to lose their freedom to protect what they must now fight for.

That type of trickery goes on constantly and law enforcement agencies do nothing about its/petition/futm_source=NC4Liberty&utm_campaign=ef18f4b35c-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_06_11_12_39&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_22d56be0dd-ef18f4b35c-46646711#

This is a disgusting case of people who use the law in a way not intended...to hurt others...to their own benefit. This is not how the law is supposed to work. No matter the outcome, at this point, there are really only losers. The development firm loses if their claim is made invalid...and the Reels brothers have already lost, even if they win....they lost seven years of their freedom, all for standing up for their property and what they believed was right (and all facts I can see about this case point to this conclusion) One of the Reels brothers is diabetic, so this is personal for me. That brother needs to be getting proper care for his diabetes, including exercise. He is not getting this care while incarcerated.

Shameful and keeping them in the Beaufort jail all this time is illegal.

This should NEVER have happened in the USA. I am so appalled by this injustice to the Reels brothers, I cannot find the words to express my outrage that this could happen to people in this day and age.

Free Melvin Davis and Licurtis Reels. We all know this is stealing by other family members and greedy developers.

I agree with you very much.

These men have been denied justice by the courts again and again. They have been in a county jail, designed for short-term incarceration, for more than 7 years. They ran afoul of a land grab made possible by the archaic Torrens Act. It's time the judiciary took a clear look at the very long history of this case.

These men have been railroaded by the judicial system and the public wonders why we do not trust Carteret County's judicial system.
