On Friday November 17th, the game site known as Coolmathgames was unfairly blocked. Kids all around the Jefferson County School District were hit with the worst ban the school has put out. The reason for this is because teachers were worried kids were playing on it when they weren't supposed to. The problem with that is because those teachers don't understand the use of the screen monitoring program known as Dyknow. Dyknow is used to monitor applications and sites the students are using. Dyknow also has the ability to temporarily block sites for a time period from which after the set time the site will become unblocked. Say 1st period is not allowed to be on a site, the teacher can go on Dyknow and block that site for the rest of their class period. When the period is over the site will be unblocked for use again. Students during free time can no longer play on cool math because of the Jefferson County School District's faulty and rather unwise decision the game site that has been unblocked for YEARS! Because of the blocking of cool math games Students have to resort to finding game sites themselves. These game sites might have non-school appropriate games. The IT department will block it, another one comes out the cracks and the IT department blocks the new one. This cycle will repeat over and over again. For the IT department this is very annoying. It's like the definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again thinking this time it will be different. If Coolmathgames is unblocked, students will feel less obligated to look for other game sites. The privilege of free time by teachers will not feel boring if Coolmathgames is unblocked. #FreeCoolmathgames
