When the justice system says their hands are tied and they can not give a person the protective coverage they need or deserve, then that person must resort to whatever means they have at hand to protect them self.

After two trials and two years of house arrest it is time to just drop the charges and let Colleen put her life back together.

Colleen is many things but one thing she is not is a liar. For 21 months she has presented a clear, consistent and compelling account of life with a deeply depressed and troubled young man. He was a victim himself.... not of Colleens, but of a life of abuse and dysfunction. The whole situation is sad.
People cry for "justice." Justice is a PROCESS, not a particular conclusion. The State of Ohio has had TWO opportunities to make a case, and each time 12 people could not agree. Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been spent in an economically depressed area with more than its share of domestic violence, substance abuse, and violent crime. I am not a resident of Stark County, but if I were I would be livid at the thought of my tax dollars being thrown at this case. How far could $100,000 go towards education and prevention programs?

I've known Colleen for many years, and I can honestly say, I never thought we'd be walking down this road together. She's always been the easy-going one, the responsible one, the compassionate and understanding one. And she still is! The surprise for me came from her marriage to Rob. I understand why she stayed every time he pleaded; she's loving, kind and compassionate. She truly thought she could help him. Rob wasn't a monster, he was just a man with many demons, and drugs and alcohol addiction were at the root. It's in Colleen's nature to want to rescue and protect, her military service shows that, but I think after they married, she quickly found herself in a situation she couldn't even rescue herself from. Unless you have experienced the physical and mental trauma of abuse, and the incredible fear, anxiety and bondage it produces, you will never be able to understand why a young, smart, well-balanced newly-wed women would feel so trapped and so threatened that she had to use lethal force on the man she loved, the man she devoted the rest of her life to.
