The tax has been officially scrapped and our local venues can finally breathe easy again. Watching the music scene stay open to the world is the only result I ever wanted. Thank you for helping me protect the heartbeat of our stages.
This petition is in opposition to the new initiative from the Minister of Employment, Social development and Multiculturalism Jason Kenney that charges every musician from the U.S. and beyond an extra cost to perform in Canada.
Although we are aware that we have many excellent musicians in Canada the choice to bring in musicians from other places is being hampered by this tax and in some cases it will be impossible for the smaller venues to book people from places other than Canada. Please sign this petition to help music venues bring in acts from outside of Canada and keep the music scene in Canada vibrant.
I have spent the last few days talking to venue owners who are terrified that these new costs will force their doors to close for good. They are trying to keep the soul of our local scene alive but this policy is pulling the rug out from under them.

Seeing this support grow makes me think of all the tiny clubs that are struggling to keep their doors open. This momentum is proof that our community refuses to let these new costs silence the music we love.

This is just gonna kill all the small venues. Nobody can afford these extra fees. Real bad move for the music scene.

Our music scene is great but we need diversity too. Please stop making it impossible for touring acts to visit our country.

Jason Kenney needs to rethink this. It hurts the local economy more than anything else.

Ridiculous. Small bars are struggling enough as it is. Stop taxing the music out of our towns.
