The student body of UCHS would like to amend the dress code guideline regarding close-heeled shoes. We envision a new shoe guideline stating each student may wear any shoe of their preference, including open-heeled shoes.
I have spent this week drafting a formal proposal to present to the administration regarding our dress code policy. The feedback from the student body has been instrumental in refining the arguments I intend to present during our upcoming meeting.

The steady growth of this petition shows a clear consensus regarding our dress code policy. This momentum indicates that the student body is ready for meaningful change at UCHS.

Dress code is here for a reason, just because you make a petition doesn't mean that it will change the dress code. If us boys made a petition to be able to wear other shirt other than collared ones, does not mean it will change. There are SO many other choices to pick, and if you must JUST have birks, then buy the ones with the straps on the back. Problem solved.

I love burks. Some would even say I have burks for days. However, burks are unsafe due to the lack of a closed heal. I have had many stone bruises due to people stepping on my heal of my foot sliding out of the shoe. That is why even though I love burks I think they should not be allowed in public because of the safety hazard they present.

It is ridiculous that this is of such big importance, it shouldn't make a difference and it doesn't. A heel is in no way distracting or detrimental to one's education.

Having open healed shoes should be a choice for us students to make, especially if we find them comfortable to wear around campus. #freetheheels
