The price of free speech is to be offended occasionally. It's cheap at twice that price. Don't sell your free speech so cheaply, you'll find it far more expensive to repurchase.

Rather than a place of safety and protection, a university is a place for intellectual challenge and the free exchange of ideas. That, to me, is absolutely basic to civilization, and the students and their representatives at the University of Edinburgh should be taking a lead in it.

Freedom of speech cannot exist without the freedom to offend and even purposefully diminish the value of other people if so the speaker chooses.
