As a currently unemployed, full time student with no car, a college ID as MUNI pass would make a tremendous difference in my ability to afford commuting to apply for various jobs/internships, grabbing groceries, volunteering at local organizations and the like. Muni fares are one of the leading interferences in my strive to be the most productive member I can be in San Francisco.

I'm taking a first-time class offered this semester, GEOG 427: Bicycle Geographies. Our final project is a presentation to the school president, Leslie Wong, SFSU's Sustainability Committee Members (http://sustain.sfsu.edu/members), and CSU representatives. We'll be answering why do so few people bike to campus and what can we do to increase it.
One of the suggestions I'll be making is for the school to offer MUNI passes. Free would be awesome! But an option is do something similar like UC Berkeley. It's about $68 a semester for an ACTransit pass for six months. SFSU has just under 30,000 students. If just half of the students got a pass, that would be $1.02 mil up front each semester to MUNI.
Along with that, I'll be looking into a bikeshare system and other ideas. Public transportation is an integral part of a properly working bike system.

VTA has an agreement with SJSU and De Anza College. Every semester/quarter, enrolled students get a sticker with an expiration date (a few weeks to a month after each term) to put on their student ID card.

I had another idea for us to get a bus pass ID card type thing that expires every year. or even like an electronic form of proof, cuz most muni drivers don't ask you to pay, it's when the muni cops ask is the problem
