"Having the William Floyd School District close down the high school to all in person learning for all students has never been my objective and this is of primary concern to me," the statement said. "However, seeing as ALL STUDENTS are still not attending school for 5 days per week, I do intend to make my voice heard. I, along with any supporters of this cause who believe that students should have in person learning 5 days a week as well as extracurricular activities and sports, will continue to peacefully protest off school property, and during school hours." I am currently preparing a formal letter to the school board detailing the legal implications of the current exclusionary policy. Counsel is reviewing our documentation to ensure that our next inquiry addresses the specific administrative errors made during the suspension process. Stay tuned for a report once we receive a response regarding these requests.

The current momentum creates a leverage point for the formal meeting I have requested with the district board. I am now compiling the witness statements and legal correspondence to present as evidence of the broad demand for a return to full in-person instruction.

You want kids to think independently. You want kids to stand up for their rights and the rights of others. You want kids to use peaceful protest. So when he does it, even perhaps with some questionable judgement, you throw him out of school? Maybe I missed the NY school system teaching moment here?
As a 1989 graduate of William Floyd I am beyond appalled at how the District chose to strong arm a student into submission. Further their actions have spurred and emboldened a student body and the community to join in the bullying of a student engaging in civil disobedience. They should be ashamed of themselves. The lesson they are teaching is not what education should be about.
So horrible what this school district has done!
I know this young man as an intelligent, caring and genuine person. He does not deserve such a harsh and spiteful "sentence" for peacefully protesting.

we pay taxes for students to learn, we don't suspend them for showing up eager to learn, we suspend them for not showing up and skipping school, you people running this district need to get your priorities straight!
