I dated two Chattanooga cops (not at the same time), and they both loved to beat up people after they were cuffed. If you talked back you definately got beat.

I was on the jury pool for Mr. Kiser's trial. I was dismissed due to my strong objection to the death penalty. This case in particular troubles me. His public defender, Ms. Gothard IIRC, left much to be desired. During Voir Dire, she questioned one potential juror as to whether images of the slain deputy shot multiple times would upset her. Deputy Bond's widow stormed out of the courtroom in tears after hearing the graphic description of his wounds. The emotions were strong, and I believe she aided the prosecution with that line of questioning even prior to opening statements. I found myself sympathizing with Mrs. Bond at that moment. As to the guilt or innocence of Mr. Kiser, from what I've read regarding the original trial and his appeals; I cannot say for sure that he's innocent, but neither can I conclusively determine that he's guilty. Neither he, nor his peers appear to have been model citizens (gun running, drug dealing, etc.) but while Mr. Kiser may not have been a Boy Scout, I can't say beyond reasonable doubt that he committed the murder of Deputy Bond. It's indeed that he was set up to take the fall for Mr. Chattin. I don't know enough of the facts to armchair whether or not he should be behind bars, but with the amount of murkiness surrounding who was responsible for the officer's death, Mr. Kiser should not be sitting on death row!
