Boarding students pay a total of 253,000$ over the course of four years at Kents hill. One year alone is 63,250$. Source: Kents Hill Website, under 'Resources'

If a student washes and dries their clothes once a week (which is mandated by the school) the total price including tuition comes to 63,369$. If a student washes and dries their clothes twice a week (a more realistic scenario) the total price is 63,488$.

It is specifically stated in the dress code that we are required to wear clean clothes without stains during all academic days. We should not have to pay seven extra dollars per week to meet the dress code standards.

This does not take into account the fact that in any given dorm on campus, only about half of the washing and drying machines work properly, and none of them are ever cleaned. When they do break down, they are not fixed. Often, it takes two to three dryer cycles to fully dry a load, so the real cost of laundry becomes significantly more. For washing and drying, whites and darks alone, this comes to, at a minimum, seven dollars a week. This does not include sheets, carpets, jackets, and masks. etc. Most people at Kents Hill play sports, which requires regularly changing clothes, and doing one load of laundry once a week is often not enough.

As we are currently going through a pandemic, it is especially important to maintain cleanliness and personal hygiene, and that has become a matter of safety. This should not depend on the economic status of the student and their family. We all come from different backgrounds, and many of us are struggling especially during this time.
