It was clearly self defense, he tried to evade the aggressor by turning and retreating away from the aggressor and the aggressor who was also a convicted felon and pedo pursued him to attack him. Same with the others, he was attacked by a rioter with a skateboard intended to wack him over his head and another guy pointing a gun at him later stating his only regret was he hesitated and didn't empty a magazine in the boy, which shows the gunman intent was to kill him so he had every right to defend himself.
