Jamaa Ait Bakrim is finally free. The Moroccan authorities finally stopped their charade and let him go home after nearly two decades of state-sponsored cruelty. We pushed back against their lies and we won.

Prisoner number 26574, Jamaa Ait Bakrim, a Moroccan

Christian convert, has been imprisoned for his faith

since 2005, and is currently detained in Prison Centrale,

Kenitra, Morocco. On December 28, 2005 Jamaa was

sentenced to 15 years for ‘proselytism’ and ‘destruction

of goods of others.’ Moroccan Christians have

commented that this second charge is a common legal

tactic to lengthen the sentence and shift attention from

the actual issue of religion.

The authorities in Kenitra are still pretending that Jamaa is a criminal while they keep a man locked away simply for his faith. This charade has gone on for far too long and I am currently pressing officials for a clear explanation of these fraudulent charges.

Reaching this milestone proves that people are finally waking up to the injustice of keeping Jamaa behind bars for nearly two decades. The Moroccan authorities have relied on pathetic legal tricks for too long and this wave of pressure shows them we are watching.

Dear King Sidi Mohammed VI, We respectfully request you to demand the release of prisoner number 26574, Jamaa Ait Bakrim from Prison Centtrale in Kenitra. We are sure you will agree that religion is between a human and God. Religious freedom is the right of all people and is as essential as the air that we breathe.

This case is one of grave injustice and needs rectifying at the earliest opportunity.

The worst thing this man has done is to care about what happens to you. Justice exalts a nation..
