TO, local and International NGOs and Human right organisations,

“As residents of Malaysia deeply concerned about the detaining of refugee children here, we call on you to press the Department of Immigration (Malaysia) using all means necessary to bring the case of two Syrian boys(Ali and Hassan) held in their custody to the forefront. We urge you to take action so that they may be released in time to join their family for the upcoming Islamic Festivity of Eid-Ul Adha . Wealso urge you to insist they implement more measures to stop the indiscriminate arrest of children registered as UNHCR refugees in Malaysia.”

Dear Friends,

Two Syrian brothers aged 18 and 14 years of age, caught working illegally to fork out a living were arrested last Wednesday 24th September in a raid at a local university and are currently being held at an immigration DETENTION unit in Malaysia. They are both registered with UNHCR and had fled Syria in fear of their safety along with their family.

It’s time to take DEFINITIVE action against this unfair treatment of children. The best way to do this is to show authorities that the citizens of this country will no longer turn a blind eye to how it’s refugees are treated, and to seek the assistance of those equipped to deal with these circumstances.

The father of the brothers has reached out to the people of Malaysia and asked them to make sure that no other refugee child has to be placed in a similar situation. Let’s ask the NGOs to take immediate action to ensure the release of Ali and Hassan.
