As a single mother of a 1st and 3rd grader, this will negatively impact my girls. They will be need to participate in before and after care causing LESS sleep due to transporting to care, less stability for them, impact family financially and reduce the after school programs they can participate in due to pick up restrictions. As a soul financial provider, there is no consideration for the workin parent. My 1st grader goes to bed at 8PM and sleeps until 7:15 - an early elementry start will NOT benefit her at all. I vote no.

Hawthorne Village I would/will vote no to change the school times. Cutting sports and after school clubs would be more detrimental and counter productive. These are the activities that enrich and improve over all health.

Totally opposed to this. As a single working mom it is impossible for me to financially put both my elementary aged kids in before/after school care. In fact franklins solutions before/after school program doesn’t even have the open availability for additional students.

My kids will be out of HS by the time the change would take effect. However, when my kids little they moved very slowly in the morning and always ate a good breakfast. With an earlier start I don’t think that would have been possible, and then maybe they would not have learned as well. Then for parents that like to make sure their older kids get up and get to the bus stop, maybe they won’t be able to do that anymore, so it could be easier for some kids to miss or skip school. I love that my high schooler can currently get help after school anytime and/or join after school clubs. If teachers aren’t able to stay late, this could change, ultimately impacting GPA and/or activity lists for some students (college applications). Finally, Franklin has great teachers. if this change does not work for them, they may switch to other school systems.

This will have significant impact on the spots my children play and the amount of money and number of years I will have to pay for child care , 3 years longer than expected.... this is a lot of $

This change would negatively impact my family as well. I hope we leave the school start times unchanged.

There have been no major studies that show that elementary school students are ready to learn earlier than their older counterparts. More studies need to be done on the impact for our youngest students before a major change such as this is made. As a high school teacher, while school start times is an attractive lever to pull in terms of helping students get more sleep, there are other factors (such as overcommitting to activities and high level courses) that, while harder to get "data" on, may be contributing even more to our students staying up late and becoming exhausted.

My husband and I work FT and have no family in the area to help out after school, so the new schedule will be a terrible hardship on our family. I don't know how we could do an even earlier elementary pick up time.

No...... to school start/end time . Hello... students will still be awake early if they have working parents. Parents still need to get up and out the door early so this means their children will have to still have to wake up early and go to a friends house or go to a before/after school facility while they await the start of their school day. If the kids are going to be up and out the door any how they might as well be at school completing their school day and not be sent to a temporary facility that will cost the families additional money/time during what can be an already hectic and stressful day. We are shocked that the time change for all schools is really being considered when it really only benefits a small number of those with students currently in the Franklin school system. Seriously... have you really took everything you possibly can into consideration, have you looked at it from all lifestyles, all angles? It does not appear so.

I am not saying that High School and Middle School students are not in need of more sleep. This change is completely leaving out 2/3 of the population. It is going to be a huge financial burden on many families.

As the parent of a student who's extracurriculars start at 4:00 pm in Newton, this will be entirely unfeasable for my family. Also, was depending on my high schooler getting my middle schooler off the bus most afternoons.

New times don't make sense. Kids have sports & work after school.
