My mother Teaches in Wells where there is a 4 day school week, my Stepson Went to Carlin for half the year last year, and with what I've heard and seen from both is that the students do much better and prefer going to school with a 4 day week.

It’s time to make a change. Teachers looking for a job are certain to find a school with a 4-Day Week more appealing than a 5-Day week. Many devoted teachers already work one day of their weekend to catch up on the paperwork (grades/lesson plans/material prep), so a schedule like this still allows them some decent time away from the school.

I believe ever school in this district except Elko and Spring Creek are on the 4 day schedule. We are the two largest communities in the district and struggled with finding subs for all of the athletics and activities last year. We all sub during our preps burn out was through the roof last year. We all need time with our families for rest and mental health to combat burn out in a profession that is suffering from out dated thinking, continually asking more and more of our staff without fair compensation and thoughts of staff mental health, disrespect from students, parents and community. Our schools are under staffed, class sizes are huge and we get exhausted. All schools are under staffed this year, so that stress and lack of time to plan, grade, and put our best selves forward will be worse this year than last. Next year and years to come will continue to get worse because we will continue to lose teachers and staff and not be able to attract new. Our student athletes and students that participate in many of the other great school activities will miss less class time and the students that do not participate can spend more time with their teachers, not substitute teachers. Do not get me wrong, we have some amazing subs and I am so thankful for them all. But they are not the teacher, the one making the plans and are not the subject expert.
A four day school week will be a step to improving our schools for all stakeholders. I have not spoke to one person that is or has worked a four day schedule that does not like it and they say they never want to go back to a 5 day schedule.
The four day week will help staff rest and recover so they can be their best during the time they are with their students.

A four day school week will address many struggles teachers are having with subs/missing students on Fridays, and test scores have increased in most districts that switched to a 4 day school week.

I fully support this. I was an aide with a sub license last year and was pulled to sub in a classroom more times than I can count. There were just no subs and this year there’s even less because most are in a classroom now. I really think this will help that problem.

I came from a school that did a 4 day work week, and I loved it. The kids' days are a bit longer, but they are resiliant and can quickly adapt. The only problem may be bus transportation, as our kids were on the bus for hours on end as they lived out of town from the school. But they did adapt. Teachers still took days off in the week, but it did help out a bit with the subbing situation.
