Foster children in Missouri receive mental heath services through Medicaid. In order to receive therapeutic services, the child must have a diagnosis through the DSMV. This petition exists in an effort to discontinue the need for a diagnosis in order for foster children to obtain mental health services. This petition does not stand to say that diagnoses be eliminated all together, but that they not be required for children in foster care to receive services, such as therapy, behavioral intervention, and psychology. Foster children are likely to enter the system having experienced abuse, neglect, and trauma, including the separation from their parents. They deserve equal access to treatment without the need to label them! Sign this petition if you chose to foster love not labels in Missouri!!!

The Missouri Department of Social Services can no longer ignore this surge of public outrage over their cruel labeling requirements. We have crossed a massive milestone that proves people are fed up with these bureaucratic barriers that deny traumatized children the help they need.

I 100% support this. These kids experience so much trauma and deserve all the help.they can get without having permanent labels stamped on them.
All children who go through counseling to help them deal with the baggage that accumulates after being placed with a new/temporary family. No child should have to have a diagnosed illness to receive help!

While testing is one way to deteremend the corce of treatment, rubberstamping a child that is so fragile right away can limit the options for a loving positive home.
