Currrently, there is no standing committee in the Student Body Government in the Los Rios district for Foster Children. However, there needs to be. Only 54% of children in the foster care system earn a high school diploma. Only 2% earn a bachelors degree. Teens transitioning out of the foster care system are lost. Some become homeless and many are left without any further education. We as a community can help foster children learn and grow. In signing this petition, you are agreeing that the Los Rios district needs a committee to help foster children transition into our local community colleges. With a committee, they can encourage the teens to try out community college, help with financial aid, help them succeed, and push them even further after the community college.
