When I aged out of DCS I was so scared and had no idea what to do. A friend of mine who I was housed with also aged out before me and was living on the streets. I had no idea there was these transition or at the very least I only knew of section 8 help and all housing in the area that was section 8 was not good places to live and I would not have been able to attend the college I wanted to go to. So many others have no idea of the resources

This should have already been a law, if kids are going ro be taken from rheir parents thee only resource they have known by the government. The government should be just as responsible as a parent would be regarding that childs well being while in government care. Studies show kiss are better off with parents rhen theybare in foster care even if their homes arent very great due to parents having an inheritant interest in their children where foster parents do not which is why abuse occurs often to children in foster homes

This country must be more responsible for it's foster care children. The children of today are the citizens of tomorrow.

I AM all for a federal mandate that requires every state to either provide transition programs with federal funding already available (through Title IV-E funding), or require that every child’s case plan connects them to already existing programs way before they turn eighteen. And equally I AM willing to provide housing for teens aging out of foster care.

Thank you for starting this petition. I am just learning about the foster care world and it is because I happened to see that movie Instant Family.

Considering taking in a foster teen who is close to aging out of the system so that I can remain as “home” for this teenager...soon to be young adult!

We have all this money available for this problem, we just need the bridge to access it! I strongly support this petition to get this legislation before Congress. It really will make a huge difference.

The purpose of parents and guardians is to ensure that children are prepared to enter the adult world. Children in the foster care system do not have that consistent care or guidance, and are at the mercy of their state and federal government. It is our responsibility as a nation to care for our children and ensure, at the very least, a positive entry into society as young adults.
