Hyde/Creed addresses needs that larger schools cannot ... And has met these with an astounding track record ... I challenge the BOE to do the long-term stats on our graduates ( college degrees, graduate degrees, careers which give back to the community, coaching, doctors, lawyers, media presence, to name a few) ... And that is just from the short 8 years that I was blessed to teach there.

This decision has implications that will threaten the very fabric of New Haven. Let's face it, a lack of education leads to lack of oppurtunity, which leads to desparation and subsequently crime. So, like the Mayor said New Haven needs money to fund the police department. That which may be working overtime for sure at this point as some of its most vulnerable residents are being stripped of resources and given no viable options.

Oh, sure New Haven, go right ahead and close one of your good schools. Keep students uneducated and ignorant. Over-populate more classrooms. Make things even harder for teachers. Prove that you politicians are truly garbage. When I went to Hyde (Class of '06), there was a remarkable staff, that cared about every student. There wasn't one adult there that you couldn't turn to, whether it was for some extra help with schoolwork, or personal problems. Their doors were always open. During my 4 years there, there were only 2 fights (One of which was stopped almost as fast as it started, by a teacher who jumped over rows of chairs). How many other New Haven schools can claim such a record? The school may have changed names, there may be some different staff now, its location may have been shifted about throughout the years, but it's still an excellent school, where the staff hold the students in their hearts. So, go right ahead, New Haven, take hope out of the hearts of the young ones, break the kind, loyal staff member's hearts by prying their beloved students away. Closing Hyde/Creed is going to cause more problems and cost more money than you will ever hope to save by closing it.

Don't deny these kids their education in a institution they really want to be apart of. There was a reason they chose to attend Hyde/Creed in the first place!

I have graduated from Hyde back in 2008. Hyde knows what is best for its students and have been changing lives for years. We've had students come in with no friends, trust issues and didn't think they were going to receive the type of help and guidance they needed to succeed. Hyde turned that completely around. Not only did Hyde set high standards for its students, the teachers were always fully involved and engaging with the students. There was never one teacher that a student couldn't get support from. Yes, Hyde may be a predominantly black, tan or brown school with very few from other races. But that shouldn't be one of the reasons to close a school that has been doing great for its students. Taking these children from their school is the worse thing anyone can do!! Hyde is a family, it's not just a simple school that kids attend and just do whatever to pass and graduate. Shutting down Hyde will be like breaking a happy home apart and scattering its children throughout the system. We want to keep our children together where they feel safe; where they receive the help and care they need individually and as a school. Please don't take one of the best things and promising education away from our children, focus on something else, but leave Hyde alone.

I am petitioning for Creed High School to stay open. It is important to our community and to the students that attend the school. It provides a small classroom setting that is focused on the achievement and success of the students. As an alumni parent of two children who have attended the school, it is vitally important that this school remain open.
