This petition requests that the Village of Western Springs Board of Trustees, employees and agents play and active role in the development of a plan to support universal sidewalks in the neighborhood of Forest Hills. This includes but is not limited to:
1. Village Board approval of a $16,000 feasibility study to build sidewalks, including plans that mitigate the loss of trees and community infrastructure.
2. After the feasibility study and in partnership with select community members, Village Board and Village Staff will develop solution alternatives including cost (e.g., competitive bid), approach (e.g., phases and timing) and financing options to support the project.
3. Village Board and Village Staff will also actively pursue alternative funding options including applications for federal, state and governmental funding to offset the cost of the project on a go forward basis.
By signing this petition, you are requesting that the Village of Western Springs plays an active role in resolving this decades old problem that will support enhanced safety in our community. Thank you for your support!

i cant believe how much momentum this has gained in such a short time. its clear everyone is ready to see some real changes for our neighborhood safety.

ive been talking to a couple neighbors who are worried about the tree situation and i want to be clear that we are pushing for a plan that protects what we have. the feedback coming in is honestly helpful and shows exactly why this is so overdue.

we just hit 100 signatures and i am honestly blown away. its pretty clear that forest hills is ready for some safer streets so thank you all for jumping on board with this.

My family is not safe walking on the street in Forest Hills. I live on Grand Avenue near 55th Street, and cars are always speeding to get to the main road. Our kids at least deserve minimal safety precautions, such as sidewalks.
I have two small children (2 &4) and even though we've taught them to run for the curb when a car is coming, we've had way too many close calls for comfort. We need sidewalks!
I feel more comfortable letting my kids walk around Miami than Western Springs because they have uniform sidewalks, set far from the street and plenty of signals. Walking or Biking around Forest Hills without uniform sidewalks is like taking your life in your hands.
This is not just an aesthetics issue but a major safety issue. No sidewalks and a lack of sufficient streetlights lead to very dangerous pedestrian issues. There are many active families in this area that include young and old alike. Additionally those with physical disabilities should be able to navigate via safe sidewalks instead of in traffic ways.
Sidewalks are needed everywhere in Forest Hills, especially on the two streets that lead directly to Forest Hills School: Fair Elms and Central Avenues. There are many kids and adults who have to walk to and from school in the street. There has also been a noticeable uptick in people out walking since March, while more residents are at home.
The random sidewalks in FH are a danger to all children living in that area( my grandchildren included) and attend FH or SJC schools. As a frequent walker in town I try to avoid that area of town as it’s very dangerous for all of us! Keep all children and adults safe in our town, please! Be THE board that makes the right decision at last on this decades old problem. Thx
There are so many trucks on the street, landscapers, builders, delivery etc. it's hard to walk to school or a friends on blocks without sidewalks. Also, so many distracted drivers with phones.

I think it is interesting that the board wanted to cram an $80K study for a bike path that nobody wanted down our throats but they won't do a study for a small percentage of that amount to protect our kids.
