The Chinese Government will not allow NZ tourist visa holders to drive in their country. This country is motivated by greed..afraid off missing out on a tourist dollar.

We have a grave situation here in New Zealand concerning Chinese drivers. I also had the same type of accident as Rhys. Young Chinese boy pulled away from a give way sign right in front of me, I slammed into the car flew through the air and landed on my feet, hard! breaking my foot off. I was lucky I know on several accounts. Unfortunately we mustn't upset the Chinese. Sorry to hear Rhys had to be another victim of our weak government...

I believe anyone driving on our roads need to pass some sort of test to prove they are capable of driving our roads safely.

this law change is a no brainer! come on and make this happen not only for Rhys and the Middleton family but the thousands of people this has affected this stupidity can not continue to ensure the safety of our families in future years to come .This problem will not go away and only get worse we need to take action immediately !

With my full support. A motorcyclist for 60 years. This is happening far too often. Obviously many of these tourists have zero driving skills. Don't allow them on the roads.

This is not an isolated case.
These tourists are causing this accident
on a weekly basis.
I personally would not travel to a country that is left hand drive and drive a vehicle without receiving some tuition first.

The car driver not being confident over 50 kms, that is scary.
Heartfelt thoughts to Rhys's family.

It's abhorrent that our people are dying at the hands of tourists that come to our beautiful country that clearly have little to no experience in driving. How many more lives are going to lost needlessly before our system changes? One is one too many.....sadly, he wasn't the first, and probably won't be the last. Much aroha to your family for your son's tragic and needless loss. Kia kaha.

Our justice system is a joke. If the reverse had happened in China, the offender would be in jail with hard labour, plus having to pay compensation.
