How many pair of brown/black/white Bates shoes have you purchased at the NEX and had them fall apart leaving a trail of black crumbs? Is $95 too much to pay for a horrible shoe? I plan on submitting a letter to the Commander of the NEX to force him to establish an alternate supplier for shoes.

The longer I'm in, the more expensive Bates shoes get and the more often I need to replace them. These are substandard products.
At least 2 pairs of white and 2 pairs of brown. I wish I could buy the "non-lite" version. The foam core is a horrible design.
Why we continue contracts with faulty providers is beyond me? Smells like an IG/Navy Crimes investigation waiting to hit the front page:
Had a "Bates blow out" right before I walked in to brief an admiral.
My white shoes were disintegrating during my Change of Command. I left a trail of white foam and trashed them as soon as it was over.
Bates are horrible!
These shoes are too expensive to fall apart at the rate that they do. The white ones are the worst.

Totally concur. Terrible quality shoes. Just did a change of command in whites and no fewer than 6 senior officers standing in ranks had shoes fall apart. How embarrassing for the Navy's image in such a public setting!
