My daughter was cyberbullied. The school system failed us. Law AB256 went into law on January 1, 2014. Law AB256 allows schools to suspend or recommend for expulsion those students who commit bullying or cyberbullying off campus. Cyberbullying bleeds into our schools and affects our children beyond our belief. Not all schools in California have policies to comply with law AB256. I am pushing for all schools to write policies to comply with current law. All too often this bullying is just a slap on the hand and does nothing to stop bullying. Threats of violence and items not protected by freedom of speech need to have consequences that will stop bullying in its tracks. Our children need to feel safe at school. Our governor felt this was important enough to sign law AB256; lets now have our schools comply.
