In our community whether it’s in Yarmouth, Digby, Barrington, etc we are known for our fishing and healthcare but for those who work in these industries to be able to leave their homes and families they need to be able to find accommodating childcare for the hours they work. Unfortunately there aren’t enough childcare homes that provide more than 7:30 am to 5:30 pm during the week. I am a childcare provider where my hours are 24/7 and I do what I can because I support parents who do what they need to do for the well being of their children and for them to go to work to help and save the families who need health care. I am trying to get this message out because once upon a time the government was looking into helping by opening a daycare center to provide long hours but quickly decided it was not possible because there would not be enough revenue to cover costs for the center, providers needed and equipment. I’m sure that if we can convince the government that if they provided an incentive to those who would be okay to do the hours in home with a contract even if it’s just during the week that more of the providers would want to help out the people who truly make this community what it is. If we all work together I know we can come up with the numbers proving the need for this. I know myself I have had people knock down my door for the childcare services I provide and the appreciations I get from the parents whom I take care of their children is truly wonderful.
