Paths are the way of the future. Paths for the planet not cars.

Dodging cars on foot or bicycle as it is now is scary and unsafe: love to see a footpath well separated from the traffic so that it doesn't just end up as extra parking for cars.

A simple step towards a more civilized community.

Absolutely yes! I think it should go farther then the Communtiy Centre though. I see kids/adults walking right up to Cranberry and farther. Especially in the dark, after Beddis there are no more street lights. I myself have almost been hit a few times up there, even wearing bright colours.

Ideally the path would go as far as Beddis Road to help create a safe cycling route.

The path is needed for the safety of both pedestrians and drivers!

A dedicated path for dual use (walk and bicycle) is required. It is dangerous to do either on any day. It would also encourage people to walk/bike to town as they would feel safer, and therefore maybe bringing some relief to the parking problem. BTW more bike rack in town are also needed.

In addition to the obvious safety benefits, it would immediately become the most travelled path on Salt Spring. There is deep community approval for this type of initiative.

Pedestrian and bicycle use should both be encouraged and safe - I hope a path can accommodate both...at least for those bikes struggling to go up the hill.

Much needed pathway. Also beside at Mary's lake is another accident waiting to happen. Paths save lives!

Obviously you benefit the populace most by giving them safe and useful walking paths.

This much-needed pathway is on the Salt Spring Island Transportation Commission's priority list. This petition will help get it bumped up the list. After last fall's successful referendum to increase local property taxes by $250,000 per year for 4 years, we have money to partner with CRD Victoria and the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to get this done. Salt Spring also has federal money -- a lot of Community Works Funds (formerly Gas-Tax Funds) dollars in reserve -- to help pay for it.

So often I see people with children, wagons, bikes and dogs walking the hill, spilling over onto the road; it just makes sense to make it a safer trek.
