Easy Access to Football Tickets for PSU Students

We, the undersigned, wish to bring to the attention of the Penn State University Athletics Department a prevalent problem we have encountered with a foreseeable solution. ------------------------- (1) The Situation ------------------------- With over 65,000 undergraduate students throughout the Penn State Campuses, there is a clear shortage of tickets to the student section in Beaver Stadium. Currently, Beaver Stadium has approximately 20,000 seats reserved in Beaver Stadium for current Penn State students. Furthermore, the cost of tickets for student football tickets has become somewhat outrageous. For the 2008 football season, season tickets to the student section cost $210. Lastly, there currently is no way for students to purchase tickets in the student section for individual games through the University. Students should not be expected to attend, or pay for, every game of the season. -------------------------------------- (2) What Needs to Be Done -------------------------------------- The Penn State Athletics Department needs to take the following three actions: 1. Increase the number of seats allotted in Beaver Stadium for the student section to 30,000 seats. 2. Lower the prices for season tickets to the student section to $100. 3. Allow for the purchase of tickets to the student section for individual football games. -------------------------------------------------------- (3) Why These Actions Need to be Taken -------------------------------------------------------- Due to the fact that we are the current students attending Penn State, we should be given preferential access to football tickets. While we understand economic reasons why alumni and non-students are offered most of the seats, we should be able to cheer on our own players. We are the best student section in the nation - this is our time, let us be a part of it.
